Important: The price listed is when there are at least 2 people on the trip. When possible, we’ll try to group you with more people so that the price will be lower for you. This could mean that we suggest an alternative date to you. If your dates are not flexible, please be aware that the trip needs at least two people to run.
Accommodation provided: For all of the following trip options, you will stay in a local house in the valley. Guests will share a bathroom and sleep in basic yet clean and comfortable rooms. The shared bathroom has a normal toilet and cold showers.
The locals are self-sufficient and make their own juice, tea, bread and cakes. They use only vegetables that they grow in their gardens. Staying in the local house is a great insight into the lives of these people.
Chapada Diamantina Trek 2 Days/1 Night

Day 1
Elevation gain/loss: 500 m uphill/600 m downhill
You will leave Lençóis at around 8.00 am by car. There will be an hour of driving along an asphalt road before you switch onto a dirt road. The stretch of the journey along the dirt road will take around one hour and fifteen minutes.
Once you arrive at the beginning of the path to the Pati Valley, the day’s trekking will begin. You will cover around 15 km over the whole day which will amount to between 5-7 hours pf walking, depending on your pace. After climbing for around 40 minutes, you will arrive on a plateau with no shelter from the elements. From here, the path is fairly flat, however, if there has been rain the night before, you may be required to cross a small river. You’ll need to take off your shoes if you don’t want them to get wet!
After around 1 hour and 45 minutes, you will reach the Mirante do Pati viewpoint, which is sure to take your breath away. A delicious lunch will be provided and you will be able to enjoy the stunning views of the Chapada Diamantina mountains as you eat.
There are numerous waterfalls which sprinkle the Pati Valley and you will get the opportunity that afternoon to cool off in one of them. Once you have reached the accommodation, dinner will be served around 7.30 pm.
Day 2
Elevation gain/loss: 450 m uphill/350 m downhill
After a refreshing night in the local house, you will start early. The goal will be to walk around 18 km over the course of the day and you will begin with a climb of around 350 m. The rest of the day, the trails will be mostly flat or headed downhill. There is nothing too technical on the trekking front today!
Around midday, you’ll arrive at the great canyon at the Cachoeirão Valley which is a fantastic place to snap some photos of the surrounding scenery! After the trekking is finished, you will head back to Lençóis, aiming to arrive between 7/8 pm.
Chapada Diamantina Trek 3 Days/2 Nights

Day 1
Elevation gain/loss: 500 m uphill/600 m downhill
You will depart from Lençóis by car at 8 am and head towards the Pati Valley. The first hour will see you drive along an asphalt road before moving onto a dirt road. This last part of the journey will take an hour and fifteen minutes.
The first day of trekking will start when you arrive at the Pati Valley and you will aim to hike around 15km (5-7 hours) over the course of the day. You will ascend for 40 minutes before arriving at a wide plateau. Be warned, there is no shelter here so you will need to bring sun protection!
After this point, the trekking will be mostly flat. If there has been rain recently and the ground is wet, you will have to cross a small river. You are recommended to remove your shoes to do this!
You will continue to hike for a further 1 hour and 45 minutes before reaching the Mirante do Pati viewpoint. These incredible views are the highlight of the first day and you will be able to eat your lunch whilst enjoying the vistas of the Chapada Diamantina mountains.
In the afternoon, you will be able to dive into one of the Pati Valley’s many waterfalls, before you continue your hike to the provided accommodation. A delicious dinner made by the locals (who are self-sustainable) will be served around 7.30 pm.
Day 2
Elevation gain/loss: 500 m uphill/500 m downhill
The day will begin with a delicious breakfast around 7.30 am and you will begin hiking around an hour later. Make sure you have packed a light daypack as that is all you will need for the day’s trek.
You’ll start with an ascent which will take around 1 hour and 30 minutes. This climb takes you up through the forest, over big rocks and through some muddy areas. You are aiming to reach Castle Mountain, however, this part of the trip is weather dependent because, in extreme conditions, this trail is very dangerous to hike. As soon as the rain begins, the risk of accidents increase.
Once you reach the Morro do Castelo (Castle Mountain), you will be able to enjoy the breathtaking views which make the trek well worth the effort! When you are at the top of Castle Mountain, you’ll need to progress over some more difficult rocks to reach the other side of the mountain. You will be rewarded with more stunning views here.
The descent is steep and tough, however, there are some trees to hold onto. You’ll be pleased to hear that the afternoon’s path is not difficult and there will be time for swimming and relaxing in some of the Pati Valley’s beautiful waterfalls.
This will be your final night in the valley. Again, you will stay in local accommodation and your evening meal will be provided.
Day 3
Elevation gain/loss: 450 m uphill/350 m downhill
On the final day of the trip, you will be aiming to walk around 21 kilometres so the day will start early. After breakfast, you’ll start with a climb of 250m. After this ascent is out of the way, you’ll be on mostly flat trails or headed downhill.
At around midday, you’ll reach the great canyon of the Cachoeirão valley where you can take photos of the incredible landscape. After the trekking is complete, you will be driven back to Lençóis.
Chapada Diamantina Trek 4 Days/3 Nights

Day 1
Elevation gain/loss: 500 m uphill/600 m downhill
At 8 am, you will leave Lençóis by car and begin your journey to the Pati Valley. After around 2 hours 15 minutes of driving (including some dirt roads), you will reach your destination.
The trek begins with a climb lasting around 40 minutes, This will take you up to the plateau located at around 1300 m. There is no shelter here so use sun protection. The trail from this point is flat, however, rain can cause difficulties. if there has been a downpour, you may need to take off your shoes to cross a small river.
After 1 hour and 45 minutes, you will reach the Mirante do Pati which showcases some stunning views of the valley. It is like stepping onto a movie set!
You will be able to enjoy lunch looking out at the incredible vistas of the Chapada Diamantina mountains before you continue to one of the Pati Valley’s waterfalls for a dip.
Once the group is sufficiently refreshed, you’ll head to the local house where you will be staying that night. Dinner will be provided at around 7.30 pm by the locals who grow all of their own vegetables.
Day 2
Elevation gain/loss: 450 m uphill/450 m downhill
After indulging in a delicious breakfast, you will head out early, ready to start the 20 km hike. There will be a climb of around 250 m before the trail flattens. There is nothing too technical about this part of the hike, it is mostly downhill or flat.
Around midday you will arrive at the Cachoeirão valley where you will be given some time to take in the views and snap some photos.
In the afternoon, you will head back to the Pati Valley. There is usually time for an extra swim in the afternoon.
Dinner will be served at around 7.30 pm at your accommodation.
Day 3
Elevation gain/loss: 500 m uphill/700 m downhill
Day of three of the trip is weather dependent. The plan is that you will head up to the Castle Mountain. The climb up to the mountain takes around an hour and a half, although this climb can be very dangerous in extreme weather. It snakes through the forest, over big rocks and through muddy patches. If it is raining, your guide may decide to change the schedule for the safety of the trekkers.
If you make it up the Castle Mountain, you will have some amazing views over the surrounding areas. Once you reach the top of Castle Mountain, you need to climb over some challenging rocks to reach the other side of the mountain for even more stunning views.
The descent from the mountain is tough but there are some trees which you can hold onto.
The afternoon will be spent following easier paths to some of the beautiful waterfalls of the Pati Valley.
Day 4
Elevation gain/loss: 250 m uphill/550 m downhill
You will spend 4-5 hours walking 13 km to Andarai. It is important to start the day early because you will need to avoid the baking sun on the trail. As you climb out of the Pati Valley, make the most of the amazing views.
Once you arrive in Andarai at around midday when a jeep/car will transport you to the blue pool. You’ll be back in Lençois around 5 pm.
Chapada Diamantina Trek 5 Days/4 Nights

Day 1
Elevation gain/loss: 500 m uphill/600 m downhill
After leaving Lençóis early, you will be driven to the path which marks the beginning of the Pati Valley. The main part of the first day will involve your trekking on a wide plateau with no trees. You will need a good sunhat and suncream!
If it rains the night before you visit, the water on the trail could mean that you have to cross the river by removing your shoes and wading through. After around 1 hour 45 minutes of trekking, you will reach the breathtaking views of Mirante do Pati.
Lunch is provided and offers some stunning views of the Chapada Diamantina mountains. You will spend the afternoon enjoying the waterfalls of the Pati Valley. Dive, swim or relax: it’s your choice!
When you reach the accommodation, you will have some time to relax before dinner is served at around 7.30 pm.
Day 2
Elevation gain/loss: 450 m uphill/450 m downhill
You will wake early and have breakfast before embarking on the day’s 20 km journey. On day 2, you will have the opportunity to explore the beautiful Cachoeirão Valley.
The day will start with a climb around 250 m and once you reach the top, you will be able to take some incredible photos of the landscape. In the afternoon, you will head back to the Pati Valley where there should be time for an extra swim if you wish.
Dinner will be served at around 7.30 pm at your accommodation.
Day 3
Elevation gain/loss: 500 m uphill/700 m downhill
After breakfast is served in the morning, your guide will decide if the weather is good enough to brave the trek up to the Castle Mountain. This hike offers breathtaking views at the top, however, the climb through the forest and over big rocks can be very dangerous in bad weather.
The descent is also tough so make sure you bring some decent hiking boots with you!
In the afternoon, you will be able to enjoy flatter trails before arriving at some beautiful waterfalls where you can swim and relax.
Day 4
Elevation gain/loss: Your choice!
Day 4 is the group’s chance to decide the program. As the last three days will have involved a lot of walking, you could opt for a more relaxing day walking to the natural swimming pools or heading to the next house which is around an hour and a half away.
There is also the option to visit the Calixto Waterfall which is a four-hour hike away or you can head down to the Cachoeira Waterfall, this is an extra three hours.
If the group cannot agree on one course of action, it is no problem for them to split up for a few hours. One group can stay at the natural swimming pools and the others can head out trekking with the guide.
Day 5
Elevation gain/loss: 250 m uphill/500 m downhill
On the final morning of your trip, you will climb out of the Pati Valley and enjoy the last views of this special area. The day will begin very early as you will want to avoid the hot sun along the trail.
Around midday, you’ll arrive in Andarai where you will meet the transport which will take you to the blue pool. You’ll head back to Lençois and arrive around 17:00.
