Full Day Small Group Day Trip to Salinas Salt Lagoon
You will be picked up from your accommodation in Arequipa at 7.00 before making the three hour trip to the Salinas Salt Lagoon. 4X4 Transport will be provided as the roads are rocky and untamed! Owing to the lack of public transport to the surrounding areas of the Salt Lagoon, you will avoid the crowds that characterise so many of Peru’s top attractions.
You will head towards Baรฑos de Jesรบs and Chiguata, taking in the views of the surrounding volcanoes and mountains. There will be a stop at a local town (which sees few tourists) and also at several viewpoints. Your guide will point out medicinal plants and the native wildlife which includes, flamingos, vicuรฑas, alpacas, geese and llamas.
Once you arrive at the Salt Lagoon, you will enjoy a scenic hike around the area. As these hikes will take place at altitude, it is recommended that you allow yourself some time in Arequipa first to acclimatise.
As this is a small group tour, you have flexibility with the schedule and can request photo stops wherever you would like. Snacks will be provided as well as a packed lunch for you to enjoy. You will return to Arequipa for around 17.00.
Tour includes: English speaking guide, return transport and snacks (including packed lunch).
Please bring:
- Hiking shoes
- Camera
- Binoculars for bird watching (these can be requested in advance)
- Suncream
- Hat
- Layers – it can get cold at these altitudes!
- Rain jacket

This was a wonderful trip, our guides were very knowledgeable and helpful. We were able to learn a lot about the Peruvian and Arequipa culture as well as see lots of the natural beauty for which Peru is known. Stunning vistas as well as lots of active wildlife made for a wonderful day.

The Salinas Salt Lagoon is a real hidden pearl nestled away between the vulcanos. It’s a nice tour to get used to the altitudes as a preparation for the hikes in and around colca canyon. Despite the weather (we had rain during our visit, so the salt lake wasn’t completely white) we had an amazing time on an beautiful location. We spotted a lot of Llama’s alpacas and vicunas and to our surprise the lake also houses flamingos. If you are looking to escape the big tourist attractions of Arequipa then this is your chance. During our whole day trip we have spotted one other couple, this really enhanced the feeling of exploring something new.
