If you’ve found yourself wandering the streets of Montañita, you’ve probably come to surf or party or more than likely, both. If that is the case, then head to Hidden House Hostel where you can find the cheapest beers in town along with hoards of travellers to share them with. With free shots on Mondays to an open bar on Wednesday, Hidden House is definitely where the party gets started!
Basic budget rooms and dorms
Aside from a decent social scene, the most important thing for backpackers is price. Luckily, Hidden House has rooms to suit all budgets. Offering privates with both ensuite and shared bathrooms as well as dorms varying in capacity, choice is abundant at Hidden House. All beds come with mosquito nets and the rooms also have fans for those warm summer nights.
Insect mesh is used on the windows to keep out any unwanted company and many rooms come with balconies where you can air those beach towels! Be warned, in low season, it can get a little chilly in the dorms but this is nothing a good beer jacket can’t solve!
Amazing communal areas
Hidden house is home to some of the best communal areas you will find. With huge open spaces filled with hammocks, including double ones in which to snuggle up with your favourite beach bum, this outside area is a great place to meet other travellers.
Ambient house music provides the soundtrack throughout the day which is great for relaxing with a couple of beers. Watch out for the resident iguanas that live in the trees above as they scramble down trunks and slink across the sand right in front of you!
Surf classes
Aside from partying, the other thing that Hidden House does best is teaching backpackers how to surf. Touted as one of the top 20 surf hostels in the world by HostelWorld, Hidden House offers teachers with loads of expertise so you’ll be riding the waves in no time. Surf classes come in at $20US for 3 hours and board rentals are just $10 a day so there really is no excuse to neglect your practice! Plus as well, everyone knows that getting in the water is one of the best hangover cures…
The party starts here!
Advertising the cheapest large beers in town, this is a hostel that knows its audience! Whilst Hidden House doesn’t allow any outside alcohol, Brahma beers can be purchased for just $1.50US each so there is little need to shop for alcohol anywhere else!
This hostel is a great place to kick back for one (or ten) drinks. Wednesday boasts four hours of open bar and on Mondays, free shots are given out to those still standing at midnight. Be warned, whilst the music is chilled during the day, the vibe goes up a notch in the evening and transforms this backpacker paradise into a party hotspot!
Activities for backpackers
With different entertainment options every evening, there is always something to encourage travellers to let loose. Whilst the vast majority of extracurricular activities revolve around your poison of choice, there are also more laid-back options for those days where everyone needs to recover from the night before.
Hidden House features a 60” TV complete with Netflix, a PS4 and even Fifa 18 for those Sunday Funday knockout tournaments! There are also two slacklines in the garden for those who like their fun to be a little more challenging (difficulty level can be altered with beer although we do not encourage this).
