Overview:

Tantalise your tastebuds and arouse your senses as you eat and drink your way through downtown Bogotá.

Discover the Colombian capital’s thriving food scene as you slurp, sip and savour some of the city’s most delicious dishes, drinks and snacks. You will also enjoy a coffee workshop, plus a game of Tejo, Colombia’s thrilling national sport!

Starting in La Perseverancia neighbourhood, your expert guide will take you on a  mouth-watering gastronomic journey through the city, ending in La Candelaria, the historic heart of Bogotá. Each tour has a maximum of eight guests so you can enjoy a personal experience as you indulge in the best of Colombia’s cuisine.

It’s time to undo the button on your jeans and get ready for the ultimate Colombian feast!

Duration and meeting point:

The tour runs from 12:00 to 16:00. Please note it may overrun due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. weather, crowds etc.).

You will meet your local food expert directly outside the brightly coloured La Perseverancia Market.

Food and drink:

At La Perseverancia Market you will learn about local ingredients and enjoy the best ajiaco (traditional soup in Bogotá) in the entire city.

During your tour, there will be 10 tastings including exotic fruits, roasted suckling pig (also known as lechona), chicha and the famous Bogotá hot chocolate and cheese

You will also stop at a local Chicheria where you’ll be able to discover more about the turbulent past of Bogotá’s ‘indigenous beer’ and taste it for yourself. And, what better way to round off your culinary experience than with a cup of fresh Colombian coffee?

Other activities:

En route, you will visit a local bar to try your hand at the nation’s favourite game: Tejo. This is the country’s national sport and involves throwing metal pucks at gunpowder packets. It’s wild, fun and a must-do activity in Colombia!

Your tour will conclude with a coffee workshop where you’ll learn about coffee production in Colombia and steeping techniques – the perfect opportunity to sample some authentic Colombian coffee.

There will be 10 tastings throughout the tour plus a coffee workshop.
  • Are drinks provided?
Bottled water and local drinks are included.
  • Do I need to be fit to join the tour?
The walk isn’t challenging and should be fine for anyone who has had a couple of days to acclimatise to Bogotá’s high altitude conditions.
  • Can children come on this tour?
All group tours are for over 18s only. This is because of the Tejo.
  • Is this tour suitable for vegetarians and vegans?
Vegetarian options are available, but unfortunately there are not vegan alternatives for all tastings. Vegans are very welcome to join the tour on the understanding that there will be some tastings for which no alternative can be offered. Please let us know when you book if you have dietary restrictions.
  • What if I have allergies?
Please contact us to enquire about any allergy avoidance. A Chef’s Tour will, of course, try to accommodate you but please understand that your safety is the main priority. It cannot be 100% guaranteed that traces of anything won’t be found in dishes, owing to the nature of street food. Unfortunately, this tour is not suitable for those with gluten or lactose intolerances.
  • What should I bring?
This tour does involve walking so make sure you wear comfortable shoes. We also recommend a rain jacket or umbrella in case of a downpour! Even on cloudy days, the sun in Bogotá can be fierce. Suncream and sunglasses are also recommended.
