Soar through the skies above one of the worldโs biggest canyons on a thrilling paragliding flight in beautiful Colombia!
Take in a birdโs eye view of the majestic Chicamocha Canyon, carved by the mighty Chicamocha River millions of years ago. The Chicamocha Canyon snakes through the mountainous terrain of Colombiaโs Santander region for almost 230km. Its deepest point plunges to more than two kilometres – deeper than Arizonaโs Grand Canyon!
The sheer scale of this gargantuan gorge can only be appreciated from the air. So, take to the sky to enjoy magnificent views of the canyon and the stunning surrounding scenery from more than 2,000m above the ground!
Schedule:
Tours depart every day.
- 9am pick up from your accommodation in San Gil
- Drive to flight point (approx 1 hour from San Gil)
- Safety briefing on arrival
- 20-25 minute flight over Chicamocha Canyon
- Return to San Gil (arriving approx 1pm-2pm)
Location:
The paragliding flight takes place over the majestic Chicamocha Canyon in the Santander region of Colombia. The nearby city of San Gil is the gateway to adventures in the surrounding area.
How to Get There:
San Gil can be reached by local bus, either from Bucaramanga to the north (approx 3 hours) or Bogota to the southwest (approx 8 hours), both of which have airports.

- How long is the flight?
The flight will last around 20-25 minutes depending on weather conditions.
- I have a health condition. Is a paragliding flight suitable for me?
This activity is not recommended for pregnant women, people with back problems, heart conditions or other serious medical conditions.
- How high will I fly?
Flights reach a maximum altitude of around 2,500m above the river.
- What should I wear?
Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothes (including closed shoes, trousers and coat/sweater). Sunscreen and sunglasses are also highly recommended.
- Are there age restrictions?
Anyone above the age of 6 years old can participate.
- What if there is bad weather?
It is rare that bad weather affects the activity. If it is not possible to go ahead with the flight due to bad weather, the activity will be rescheduled to another day to suit you.
- Will I join a group?
Participants that book a flight on the same day will travel together to the flight point as a group. The activity will still go ahead if only one person books for a particular date.
Payment:
To reserve your place on this tour you will need to pay a deposit online with South America Backpacker via credit or debit card.
The remaining balance will be paid directly to Parapente San Gil on the day of the tour with cash or credit/debit card (please note card payments incur a 5% charge).
