Dive deep into the heart of the Amazon Rainforest on a thrilling 4-day adventure of a lifetime!
Get back to nature as you spend your days hiking in the untamed jungle, swimming in refreshing rivers and tasting delicious fruits of the forest and your nights sleeping beneath the stars surrounded by the calming sounds of nature.
Choose to either visit three countries in one day (Colombia, Brazil and Peru) before spending three days hiking, camping and exploring in the Amazon jungle, or embarking on a challenging but rewarding 4-day adventure trekking deep into the forest to reach the Calderon River.
Itinerary:
There are two exciting 4-day Amazon adventures to choose from. Pick one of the following options based on your interests (itineraries listed below).
- Combo Calderon Amazonas – Choose this option if you want to visit the Tres Fronteras (Three Borders) before heading into the rainforest for jungle trekking and camping
- Calderon Extreme – Choose this option if you want to spend more time camping in the rainforest and enjoy deep jungle trekking
Combo Calderon Amazonas (4 day Amazon tour including visit to the Three Borders and Calderon River)
DAY 1
- Depart Leticia at 8 am and enjoy a boat ride along the Amazon River observing the grey and pink river dolphins
- Cross the Colombia-Brazil border and visit the Brazilian village of Tabatinga
- Head to your third country in one day and visit Santa Rosa Island in Peru
- Enjoy a typical Peruvian lunch and navigation along the Amazon River in Peruvian territory
- Visit the Victoria Regia Nature Reserve and observe the exotic lotus flowers
- Take an ecological hike or canoe along the river (according to river conditions)
- Return to Leticia around 5pm where you will spend the night
DAY 2
- Depart Leticia at 8 am by bus to drive to the starting point of the hike to the Calderon River
- Hike through the jungle, breaking for lunch, until around 4pm
- Make camp before taking a night walk to observe nocturnal jungle critters
- Return to camp for dinner and then spend the night surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest
DAY 3
- Start the day with a healthy breakfast at the jungle camp
- Continue the hike towards the Calderon River, breaking for lunch along the way
- Around 2 pm, arrive at your next destination, a small house in the middle of the jungle
- Spend the afternoon exploring the rainforest, fishing and swimming, sampling some of the fruits of the forest and spotting the wildlife
- In the evening dinner will be taken at camp
DAY 4
- After breakfast, begin the hike back to Leticia observing the forest wildlife en route
- Enjoy a final lunch in the jungle before arriving back in Leticia around 4pm
Calderon Extreme (4 day Amazon tour including deep-jungle trekking and visit to Calderon River)
DAY 1:
- Depart Leticia at 8 am by bus to drive to the starting point of the hike to the Calderon River
- Hike through the jungle, breaking for lunch, until around 4pm
- Make camp before taking a night walk to observe nocturnal jungle critters
- Return to camp for dinner and then spend the night surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest
DAY 2:
- Start the day with a healthy breakfast at the jungle camp
- Continue the hike towards the Calderon River, breaking for lunch along the way
- Around 2 pm, arrive at your next destination, a small house in the middle of the jungle
- Spend the afternoon exploring the rainforest, fishing and swimming, sampling some of the fruits of the forest and spotting the wildlife
- In the evening dinner will be taken at camp
DAY 3:
- After a nutritious breakfast, pass the morning hiking in the jungle and enjoying spending time deep in the Amazon Rainforest
- Eat lunch in the jungle before returning to camp to rest
- In the evening have dinner at camp and prepare for the return journey
DAY 4
- After breakfast begin the hike back to Leticia observing the forest wildlife en route
- Enjoy a final lunch in the jungle before arriving back in Leticia around 4pm
Accommodation:
All tours include 2 nightsโ hostel accommodation in Leticia, the night before the tour and the night of the last day of the tour. Hipilandia Amazonas Hostel provides basic but comfortable private rooms and dorms, a shared kitchen and common areas where guests can relax and socialise.
Accommodation on the other nights will be camping in the jungle. Hammocks and camping equipment are provided.
Food:
All meals are included, from lunch on the first day of the tour to lunch on the last day.
Vegetarians and vegans and other dietary restrictions can be catered for. Please inform Tarapoto Amazonas in advance of any dietary requirements.

All tours begin and end in Leticia, Amazonas, Colombia.
How to Get There:
There are only two ways to reach Leticia: by plane or by boat.
The only direct flights to Leticia are from Bogota, Colombiaโs capital, and take 2 hours.
If you are coming from Peru, it is possible to take a boat along the Amazon River from Iquitos to Leticia (via Santa Rosa Island near the Peru-Colombia border). The fast ferry takes around 18 hours and the slow boat takes about 3 days.

FAQs
- What is the best month to visit the Amazon?
The Amazon has two seasons: wet and dry. The wet season runs from around December to May and the dry season from June to November. There is no good or bad time to visit as you will be able to see amazing wildlife, stunning plants and spectacular scenery at any time of year. You should also expect some rain whatever time of year you visit. It is the rainforest after all!
Do I need to be fit to join the tour?
The Combo Calderon Amazonas and Calderon Extreme both include a significant amount of trekking through the jungle, which can be challenging. Participants should have a good general level of fitness to join the tour. - What should I bring?

- Do I have to carry my own luggage?
Yes. We recommend taking a small day pack with only the essentials listed above. You can leave your main luggage at the hostel in Leticia. - Iโm vegetarian / vegan / have dietary requirements. Can I be catered for?
Yes, dietary requirements, including vegetarian and vegan options, can be catered for. Tarapoto Amazonas Jungle Tours will request your requirements before the start of the tour. - Will I join a group?
Guests booking for the same date will be grouped together. Tours run with a maximum group size of 6 people. Please note that the prices stated here are based on a minimum of 4 people joining the tour. Tours running with fewer than 4 people will have a higher cost per person. - Will my guide speak English?
Yes. The price of the tour includes an English-speaking guide. Please note that the tours also run with Spanish-speaking guides at a slightly reduced rate. Please contact us if you would like to book a Spanish-speaking tour.
Payment:
To reserve your place on this tour you will need to pay a deposit online with South America Backpacker via credit or debit card.
The remaining balance will be paid directly to Tarapoto Amazonas Jungle Tours who will send payment information upon confirmation of your booking.
